Historic Wilmington on the River
Wilmington, midway between New York City and Miami, is nestled on the southeastern coast of North Carolina between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River. The region encompasses Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach. Because of ocean and river breezes, Wilmington residents enjoy a subtropical climate. The average summer temperature is in the 80s and the average temperature for the winter resides in the 50s. Snow is rare but it along with skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed just a short distance away in the western part of the state. Wilmington's mild climate is perfect for year 'round outdoor activities.
Within downtown Wilmington you'll find plenty of interesting museums, galleries, specialty shops, and a thriving nightlife. Stop in for a bite at any one of downtown Wilmington's first-class riverfront restaurants or just take a stroll through the large historic district, complete with stately homes on cobblestone roads with tree-lined streets. Spend your Sunday afternoon visiting the battleship USS North Carolina, cruising the Cape Fear River on Wilmington's riverboat or touring the town in a horse drawn carriage. Just a short drive away, you'll find excellent golf courses, an aquarium, a state park, beautiful plantations and gardens, a state university, and gorgeous beaches of white sand and blue-green water.
Enjoy the Wilmington area's many full-service marinas offering first-rate fishing, boating, diving and skiing. Surf some waves or just relax under the sun at one of our beautiful beaches. Have lunch overlooking the bay or sit out on the pier and listen to the sound of the ocean while enjoying dinner. There is something here in Wilmington for everyone; young and old alike.
